    1. I don’t know the exact specifications used in Chicago, but most new LED streetlights do not have uplight except when they are installed improperly, which happens sometimes.

      1. the direct light component from a street light is only half of the story, reflected light is contributing to the issue of light pollution, especially from ill-designed high intensity LED sources

  1. Thanks for posting this! I live in Chicago and am a lighting product manager. There is a downlighting requirement for the replacements, but they are not doing enough to improve light spill. There should be a city wide regulation, similar to what Catalonia is doing, to reduce light pollution across the city. It’s not just street lights, even though they are the main culprit.
