Understanding the relationships of species in space and with their environment is fundamental to being able to manage landscapes effectively, and to design them. Spatial ecology offers tools and approaches to understand these dynamics. We have applied new techniques to monitoring and assessing the health of rare butterfly populations, used spatial modeling to predict the distribution of invasive species, and assessed the performance of inductive vs. deductive modeling approaches in defining species ranges.
